
The water lily is the best known of aquatic plants and plants are considered sacred since ancient Egypt for its beauty, following the solar cycle by opening their flowers in the presence of sun and closing in the dark.
Its floating flowers and sweet scent in the early days, present a range of colors ranging from white through pink, red, yellow and some varieties that change color. Its flowering period is from mid-spring (October) continues flowering until early fall.
Their leaves as plates on the water, in contrast to the water, providing shade and protecting the fish.
These nymphaeas cold temperate enter winter break, it can lose its leaves if temperatures are below 5 º C, growth in this period is underwater to sprout in the spring with higher temperatures. Perfectly survive frost, even with frosted surface as long as the ice does not touch the rhizome.
Cultivation:
Light: Full sunlight. The water lilies require at least 4 hours of sun to bloom reached its fullness with 6 hours or more.
Depth: The water lilies are placed in pots or baskets at a depth of 30 to 60 cm. The smaller cultivars thrive in water depth between 15 and 45 cm. All lilies reach its peak and produce large amounts of flowers when they have room to grow.
Nutrition: To achieve a good development, and a great flowering water lilies should be fertilized generously throughout the warm season. And give the necessary space for growth.
